THE FUTURE OF MAGIC CLUBS IS NOW

Two years I wrote and article on SAVING MAGIC CLUBS. I made the point that clubs needed to be more current and use the technology to gain new members. With magic clubs and conventions closing down there is a way to save your local club and it’s already in the works in NZ with the BAM (Brotherhood of Auckland Magicians) who I have been talking to about how to do this.

In my article I said the largest magic clubs in the world are those on social media and YouTube. Now is the time to use what is already here to save your club and even gain more members!!  

Magic NZ has always been innovative because they were the first to start up a Magic Bulletin board before anybody else in the world, and lead the way with their thinking on how to use the Internet to promote magic and business. As a country New Zealand has always been isolated and forced to be innovative to stay in contact - hence they are at the forefront of technology and innovation. There is a reason why APPLE and other major companies use NZ as their BETA testers. 

HOW MAGIC CLUBS CAN SURVIVE

This isn’t rocket science. It’s what I suggested two years ago in VANISH. If you can’t hold meetings in homes or larger venues then why not do them online. There is no need to cancel your regular meetings and actually these can be just as much fun! Remember VANISH on average gets over 100,000 downloads a MONTH and in some cases those numbers are well over 400,000 for back editions. We have readers from every walk of life and from every corner of the globe. If I can do this with a magic magazine YOU CAN DO THS with a club. Imagine how you could build numbers of your local club - OR START YOUR OWN MEETINGS without all the ‘old school’ magic club baggage. Either way here’s how ….

You can set yourself using ZOOM.us which allows you to set up as many people as you want - you have a moderator oversees it all. It is free and offers LOTS of ways to host a meeting. Everybody can still perform magic - set up various themes such as ‘camera’ tricks or tricks you can do for social media and have each person perform a quick trick. As long as a person has a computer with camera they can join.

You can set these up at ANYTIME,  and while the physical part of the meeting might not be there the camaraderie is. It’s EASY to do, and will help you get through these strenuous times. 

This isn’t the FUTURE of magic, it is what is happening NOW . I first became aware of this a year ago through my son’s homeschool. He has classes online and that is when I realised magic could also use this. There is no better time to do this than NOW.

There is other software out there you could use, but I like ZOOM the best. You could set up a Facebook group and have group chats, also use SKYPE. 

ZOOM gives you more control so you can mute people and invite them to chat when needed etc. 

Don’t cancel your meetings - set them up for the next few months using ZOOM - who knows you might enjoy it and start something younger people will enjoy and your numbers will grow.
